Ad Blocker Compatibility

Ad Blocker Compatibility refers to how well a browser or browser automation tool works when an ad blocker (or similar content filter) is active. Some websites try to detect ad blockers by seeing if ad scripts, trackers, or ad elements are missing. If parts of a page don’t load normally (ads are blank, scripts fail, layout shifts), then the site may suspect something is filtering content and may block access or show a warning asking you to disable your ad blocker.

How Ad Blockers Are Detected

  • The website checks for certain ad scripts or tracker URLs - if those resources are blocked or absent, that raises a red flag.
  • It might embed hidden or “bait” ad frames or scripts and test whether they execute; if they don’t, it infers something is blocking content.
  • The site may look at CSS/layout areas reserved for ads: if those ad containers are empty or removed, it may assume filtering is happening.

Why It’s Important for Automation

If your automated browser looks like it’s blocking ads (even unintentionally), many sites will respond by refusing full access, demanding verification (CAPTCHAs), or restricting functions. Also, missing scripts or resources may break page functionality, so your automation or extraction logic may fail.
